May 7th to May 11th, 2018
For the remainder of the year students, will be working individually or in small groups to complete math projects and activities that require them to apply the skills and concepts they learned throughout the school year. The projects will be completed in class. If you could send a of piece poster board, some construction paper, and card stock in for your child that would be great. Also if your child could bring in crayons and/or colored markers to keep in their back pack to use when needed that would be helpful.
Student Absence or Missing Assignment:
If your child is absent, I will send home the lesson that he missed so he can complete it at home. Any classwork that is not completed will be sent home for homework and must be returned the next day. As always, you can find information and worksheets on this week's lessons on thinkcentral.com. The user name is your child's lastname.firstname. The password is franklin1. On Powerschool, assignments are labeled with the page number from the Go Math Curriculum. If your child is missing an assignment, please download the page from thinkcentral.com and have them turn it in.
Please remind your child to use their time wisely in class, to ask questions, complete independent work and follow classroom rules. We have come to a point that we are starting to give detentions due to behavior. If inappropriate behavior and rule breaking continues students will be given a morning detention.
Math fact Quizzes-daily
Many students are completing the required iReady practice time. There are still students who are not meeting the weekly requirement of 2 lessons and 45 minutes a week. I have noticed a difference in number sense and the ability to understand algebraic concepts in students who are completing their iReady requirement. Please remember that each week I give a grade for the time completed. A week runs from Monday to Sunday so students will have the weekend to complete their 45 minutes, with a minimum of two lessons completed in that time. Your child will have an iReady log in their math homework folder to record the date, lesson title, time, and pass/fail. Extra lessons have been added to iReady that cover skills and concepts students should have mastered in previous grades but have not. Please have the students complete the extra lessons first. There are also lessons on iReady that address our current unit.
1. Please continue to work on math facts as many are still struggling. Knowing multiplication, addition, and subtraction facts will greatly help your child be successful in this unit.
2. Please be sure to check your child's math folder for any unfinished class work from the day's lesson. Students must finish it for homework and return it the following day.
Please check PowerSchool for any missing assignments. The in class assignments come from our workbooks and I do not make copies of them. However, these worksheets can be found on thinkcentral.com, downloaded, and printed at home for your child to complete.
Please remember to sign your child's blue, Friday folder. It is required, so that we know that the parents have actually seen the weekly newsletter, test scores, school news, fundraisers, etc. Thank you!
Please make sure your child comes to school prepared with pencils and erasers. I would suggest getting the pink large, rectangular erasers. They can be purchased at CVS, Walmart, Walgreens, etc.
